Rotorua is one of New Zealand’s top tourist destinations, and there are a wide range of attractions to be enjoyed. These can be what-ever you desire, ranging from quiet relaxation with a spa and massage, to an adrenalin pumping bungy jump, or you may choose something in between.

Depending upon your interests, the following are some of the favorite attractions that are popular with Rotorua visitors:

  • Maori Cultural Experience
    There are a range of options, including the Te Puia Maori Cultural Centre as well as several venues where you can enjoy the traditional Hangi and Concert Show.
  • Geothermal Experience
    There are many attractions to choose from, including Whakarewarewa, Waimungu, Hells Gate, and Waiotapu
  • Agricultural Experience
    Agrodome, Sheep Show and Farm Tour.
  • Pamper Experience
    There are many spa destinations, the most renowned being the Polynesia Spa which is a leading international hot mineral spring spa.
  • Eco Experience
    A recent addition on the outskirts of Rotorua is Canopy Tours, which will give you an exciting zip line (flying fox) ride among the tree tops in an area of undisturbed native forest –however you will need to book in advance of your Rotorua visit.
  • Scenic Flights
    A variety of helicopter and float plane flights are available from the Rotorua lakefront or from Te Puia
  • Trout Fishing
    There are many lakes, rivers and streams with brown and rainbow trout.   With a licence you may do your own thing, or alternatively, there are guides who will provide a full trout fishing service.

Rotorua is the mecca for mountain bike riding in New Zealand. The Whakarewarewa Forest has an extensive systems of tracks and trails, which vary to suit all levels of skill and fitness. Bike hire is available, and there is also a shuttle to get those downhill experts (and others) to the top of the hill. Your host Ashley, is an avid Mountain Bike rider and is happy to advise the best trails for you.

The luge is a fun, fast paced family activity that everyone can enjoy. With over 4 kilometers of luge tracks for all ages and all difficulties, the luge is a fun and thrill-fuelled activity to be enjoyed by anyone visiting Rotorua.

Rotorua Museum is housed in the Historic Bath House Building, located in the Government Gardens. The Museum has collections relating to the history of Maori and European settlement in the Rotorua area, a fine arts collection and a Photographic Collection with over 70,000 images of Rotorua’s rich history.
